Abstract
We discuss a scheme for the computation of waves in an elastic medium. The scheme is fourth-order accurate in space and second-order accurate in time and is based on the first-order system for the velocities and stresses. The stability and accuracy of the scheme appears to be insensitive to the Poisson ratio. The scheme has been extended to cylindrical geometry and to Biot's system of equations for waves in a poroelastic medium.
