Focusing on the Interactive Development of Secondary School Teachers’ Knowledge of Mathematical Statements

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

This paper focuses on the first session of a professional development course revolving around the topic of mathematical statements and their appropriate proving methods. It analyzes the interactive development of the teachers’ knowledge by focusing on the relation between the mathematical statements, the instructor, and the teachers. Different roles of the instructor, such as observing, analyzing, and reacting to the learning activities, are highlighted. At the end of the session, teachers conclude that the combination of quantifier and predicate in a mathematical statement determines the proving method of the statement.
