Field PMD measurements through a commercial, Raman-amplified ULH transmission system

Abstract

Detailed PMD measurements on a field-deployed 986 km commercial system find anomalous PMD contributions of approximately 0.6 ps/node beyond that of the transmission fiber. Dramatic changes in the PMD spectrum due to temperature sensitive components were observed.
