Abstract

The prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart disease is of great importance, due to its high incidence at birth and elevated rates of neonatal mortality. Demonstration of the 4-chamber, 3-vessel and trachea, and sagittal aortic arch views is necessary for complete fetal cardiac assessment. Abnormal number, arrangement, size, and alignment of the blood vessels are indicators of anomalies. The objective of this article is to assess the added value of the 3-vessel and trachea views along with the cardiac arches in conjunction with the 4-chamber view in fetal echocardiography. Careful sonographic cardiac evaluation may improve prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart disease.
