Fast wavelet packet image compression

Abstract

A new fast wavelet pocket compression algorithm is proposed. The algorithm encodes very efficiently textured images. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated by comparing it to the SPIHT wavelet coder. At very low compression rate, SPIHT slightly outperforms the wavelet packet coder. At medium to high compression rate, the wavelet packet coder clearly outperforms SPIHT.
