Abstract

The wavelength dependence of the phosphorescence/fluorescence ratio from 2-N-arylamino-6-naphthalenesulphonates in glycerol at 77°K demonstrates fast intersystem crossing. Both S1 → T and S → T are promoted by a heavy atom effect through 4-halogen substitution in the N-aryl group.
