Abstract

Strong isotopic fractionation between ²³⁴U and ²³⁸U has been noted in deep oil-well brines. The waters are stratigraphically and structurally isolated from fresh-water inflow and have remained stagnant for more than five half-lifes of ²³⁴U. Excess ²³⁴U is explained by the ²³⁴Th alpha-recoil nucleus event.
