Abstract
Strong isotopic fractionation between 234U and 238U has been noted in deep oil-well brines. The waters are stratigraphically and structurally isolated from fresh-water inflow and have remained stagnant for more than five half-lifes of 234U. Excess 234U is explained by the 234Th alpha-recoil nucleus event.
