Examples in theory: Interpassive illustrations and celluloid fetishism

Abstract

This essay examines some of the uses of examples from films in theoretical writing. Employing Žižek's concept of interpassivity, it argues that the use of examples need not be limited to illustrating a preexistent theory that is already believed to be true.
