Abstract
Concomitant with the general trend towards disarmament and peace, new weapons with terrifying devastating power are being developed. Future wars may look different from those fought in the near past. Accordingly, future military medicine may be different, raising new, unprecedented ethical issues. This article discusses some of these issues as encountered by the medical officer and in cases of peacetime military medicine, mass casualty situations, and 'return-to-duty'.
