Elastic moduli near percolation: Universal ratio and critical exponent

Abstract

A random bond, isotropic, two-dimensional elastic network with both bond-stretching and bond-bending forces is used to investigate the critical behavior of the two elastic moduli near the percolation threshold p=pc. Both moduli are found to vanish as ppc with the same critical exponent T=3.50.2, which differs from the result found by S. Feng and P. N. Sen [Phys. Rev. Lett. 52, 216 (1984)]. The ratio of the two moduli is found to have a universal value independent of the microscopic force constants.
