Abstract

This paper considers some non-radiative processes in solids that occur from a non-equilibrium nuclear configuration of an electronically excited state. A theory of coupled electronic-vibrational relaxation is presented in an attempt to provide a quantitative basis for criteria for luminescence of electronically excited centres in condensed phases.
