Abstract

Twelve conidial Septoria tritici isolates from different geographical origins were examined for the presence of mycoviruses. Isolates ISR398 (Israel) and ETH8205 (Ethiopia) contained double-stranded (ds) RNA viruses. The genome of these viruses is typified by one dsRNA segment with an apparent molecular weight of 1·3 × 106. The dsRNA of the two isolates show a high degree of sequence homology. Isometric (35 nm) virus particles were purified from the two isolates. The viral capsid consists of one major protein with a molecular weight of 6 × 104.
