Direct digital drive modulation for optical interconnects

Abstract

A method is described for directly interfacing electronic digital systems with optical modulators, without mediating circuitry. The application of the method is illustrated for two devices: electro-optical digital-to-analog converter and M-ary modulator for generating optical multi-level complex signals.
