Abstract
The author considers the relationship between mental and psychosomatic disorders on the background of the search activity concept, a notion similar to Ammon's constructive aggression. Renunciation of search activity leads to depression and neurotic anxiety, these being correlated with repression. In interpreting the depression- and hypochondriasis-scales of the MMPI, the author shows a relation between depression/anxiety and psychosomatic disorders, whereas hypochondric concerns correlate negatively with somatic disorders of psychosomatic diseases. The latter outcome indicates a new orientation of prominent search activity, which can restore objective somatic health. In schizophrenia different combinations of schizophrenia with psychosomatic symptoms may be determined by the different representation of positive and negative symptoms, positive symptoms also corresponding with the notion of search activity.
