Abstract
The use of dextranomer (Debrisan) to clean the suppurating leg ulcers of eight patients is presented. It is supplied as dry beads 0.1-0.3 mm in diameter, and has marked hydrophilic properties. It was effective in absorbing exudate, keeping wounds clean and reducing edema of wound edges. The healing process was not significantly shortened but the number of dressings per day was reduced. We found this agent to be a valuable addition to the conservative methods in current use.
