Abstract

In 1926, Baruk made a clinical study of cerebral tumors in psychiatric patients and he resumed his observations in his MD Thesis and other publications. He concluded that there are some adult epileptics whose fits are the first sign of a cerebral tumor, the detection of which is easy, certain and in 90% of cases correct, from the clinical aspects. There is therefore a possibility of the early detection and localization of a cerebral tumor to make it operable even before the appearance of neurological signs. The authors recommended doing a radio isotopic scan of the brain in every cases of 'epi tardia', after 20 yr, not only for detecting tumors but also for avoiding arteriography.
