Destruction of superconducting metastable states by β- irradiation

We report the first observation of a β-ray stimulated transition between a superheated superconducting state and the normal state. The effectiveness of the radiation upon a superconducting mercury colloid is greatly enhanced at low temperatures and for magnetic fields approaching the superheating field.
