Abstract

The problem of evaluating and selecting a distributed multi-micro or mini-based information system is presented. These systems are characterized by various hardware and software factors, and the selection process is aimed at satisfying pertinent functional requirements. This paper presents a new model based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process that provides the framework for assessing this multicriteria decision problem. The model provides methodological guidelines considering a wide range of needs such as performance levels, system expandability, data confidentiality and integrity, as well as several other nontechnical or intangible factors.
