Abstract

When knee injury occurs, the functioning of the vastus medialis is inhibited and patella malalignment usually occurs. The treatment for such a problem is the rehabilitation of the vastus medialis. In the past, braces have been used during rehabilitation to give passive support and stability to the patella. The new design is an attempt to apply to the patella the stabilizing force which would normally be supplied by the vastus medialis. It should thus prove more successful than previous designs as an aid in rehabilitation and as a device useful in the relief of patella pain.
