Abstract

The sodium salt of the anionic halfsandwich complex [C5H5Co{P(O)(OC2H5)2}3]-= L-crystallizes as trimeric aggregate (NaL)3•2H20. Crystal data are as follows: a = 10.866 (2) A, b = 25.048 (4) A, c = 31.378 (9) A, β = 98.77 (2)°, Z = 4, dcalcd= 1.35 g cm-3, and space group P21/c. The complex anion L-reacts as an oxygen tripod ligand with M(CO)6to form [LM(CO)3]-(la, M = Mo, lb, M = W). la reacts with allyl iodide to give [lmo(co)2( η3-C3H5)]. The hydride complexes [LM(CO)3H] (2a,b), obtained by protonation of la,b, undergo insertion reactions with isoprene to give the allyl complexes [LM(CO)23-C5H9)]. 2b can be halogenated to give [LW(CO)3X], X = Cl, Br, and I. 2b is oxidized by air to yield the tungsten oxo complex L2W206. The ML2complexes [V(0)L2], [VL2]PF6, [CrL2]PF6, [TiL2]PF6, and [TiL2](PF6)2have been prepared from the reaction of NaL in water or tetrahydrofuran with oxovanadium(IV), vanadium(III), chromium(III), and titanium(III) salts. The mixed ligand complexes [LSnCl3], [LZrCl3], [LMo(O)Cl2], PPh4[LRhCl3], and [|LRhCl2}2] have been synthesized likewise.
