Abstract
The stress-ratio equations can be derived from fully-loaded conditions. The technique is therefore always a first order iterative method and under certain conditions, second order. All intermediate designs are within the iterations subspace which constitutes a small part of the design space. Convergence characteristics of the stress-ratio method are discussed and illustrated with numerical examples.
