Abstract
The power flow between a photovoltaic (PV) array, the load, and an energy storage system is studied. The PV system operation is analyzed in a matched and nonmatched model. A general model of a matching system composed of a power-processing unit and a signal-processing circuit is presented. The matching system ensures PV system operation at its maximum power point, with optimum energy utilization and efficiency. As an illustration, the operation of a motor powered by a PV array is discussed. Higher starting torques and better efficiencies are obtained by using matching systems.
