Abstract
Continuum spectra for pion single charge-exchange scattering at 165 MeV kinetic energy are calculated for a number of nuclei within the single-scattering approximation over a wide range of nuclear excitation energy. The discrepancy between our calculations and the data suggests that multiple-scattering processes may contribute significantly to the charge-exchange spectra. This suggestion is consistent with the present understanding of the delta-nucleus interaction as given, for example, by the isobar-hole model.
