Abstract
Adherence of two larvicidal spores, Bacillus sphaericus 2297 and Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, to hexadecane and corn oil was determined. Adherence was greatly promoted in the presence of 2 M ammonium sulphate, reaching levels of up to 89%. The data suggest that larvicidal spores may be concentrated at their operational niche (the water surface) by flotation, adhering to the surface of oil droplets. The data suggest that adherence of the spores to oil droplets may enable their concentration at the water surface, where they can effectively kill mosquito larvae.
