title = "Comments on the spectrum of Nambu-goldstone particles in supersymmetric theories",
abstract = "We study the spectrum of Nambu-Goldstone (NG) particles in supersymmetric models using superpotentials constructed from elementary chiral superfields. We point out the possibility that translation invariance of the superpotential can lead to massless NG modes. We show that symmetry-breaking in the presence of R-symmetry can lead to preservation of a modified R-symmetry, in analogy to the preservation of a modified R-symmetry in the presence of instantion breaking of chiral U(1) symmetry in models with supersymmetric confining gauge interactions.",

note = "Funding Information: Buchm\textasciitilde{}ller, Peccei, and Yanagida (BPY) \textbackslash{}[1\textbackslash{}] proposed the idea of using the supersymmetric \textbackslash{}[SUSY\textbackslash{}] analogue of the Nambu-Goldstone mechanism in theories with spontaneously broken global symmetry as a way of guaranteeing the masslessness of quarks and leptons in composite models. Several issues connected with this very attractive idea have been, are being, or should be explored: (1) the relation of the original global symmetry group, G, and the symmetry group of the vacuum, H, to the set of (massless) Nambu-Goldstone fermions \textbackslash{}[2-6\textbackslash{}]; (2) the relation of the set of massless fermions which saturate the anomaly-matching constraints to the set of Nambu-Goldstone fermions \textbackslash{}[7-9\textbackslash{}]; (3) the derivation from the lagrangian of assumed patterns of condensate formed from composites of the elementary constituents; (4) the possible light mass scales which can be generated due to explicit masses of the constituents, 1 Supported in part by the National Science Foundation.
