Abstract
No correlation between previous sprains and late functional instability was found, leading to the conclusion that the first sprain establishes the instability. In our opinion, strapping and mobilization is the treatment of choice for ankle sprains with less than 10° of talar tilt. This regime seems appropriate to enable a short 'off work' period and leaves fewer patients with less residual pain and discomfort. A series of 90 cases is reviewed.
