Abstract
Anticoagulant treatment reduces mortality and morbidity of thrombosis. Warfarin treatment requires monitoring at a narrow therapeutic range and deviations from this range increase the risk of thromboembolic events and bleeding. In the last two decades, specialized anticoagulation clinics have been developed for monitoring warfarin therapy. In this review we evaluate the efficacy of warfarin treatment in anticoagulant clinics in comparison with regular community clinics and analyze the economic aspects of preventing warfarin complications.
