N2 - To the Editor: Regarding Dr. Chaim Sheba's letter in the Journal (282:343, 1970), I wish to express my opinion against the indiscriminate use of chloramphenicol. Last year we had the opportunity to treat a young man suffering from severe aplastic anemia after chloramphenicol therapy for acne vulgaris. In that case there was no doubt that the antibiotic caused the aplasia because a month previously, he had a complete laboratory checkup. He received 1 gm of chloramphenicol a day for six months, and when he was first seen in our department, his hemoglobin was 5.5 gm per 100 ml, the white-cell ….
