Charge transfer and stacking in solution of N-purinoylaminopyrimidine

Abstract

The high extinction (ε{lunate} = 17000) absorption at 341 nm, and the intense fluorescence (φ = 0.7) at 420 nm of 5-(N-purin-6-oyl)-4,6 diaminopyrimidine are assigned to an intramolecular charge transfer (CT) transition across space. At the isoelectric point (pH 7.8) intermolecular stacking occurs and as a result the intramolecular: CT is reduced. This implies the electrostatic character of stacking forces.
