An O-type TWT with an irregular slow-wave system is optimized over a wide range of variation of the gain parameter epsilon and other parameters. The unique features of the optimum interaction processes are investigated in the designs obtained and their bandwidth and phase-frequency characteristics are given. It is shown that a gain bandwidth of 30-40% at a level of eta //e equals equals 65-70% is attainable in optimized O-type TWT's with an irregular slow-wave system.
