Abstract

Almost all substances recognized as being carcinogenic in humans were first identified as such in the occupational setting. Historically, workers are among the first victims of carcinogens because of their high occupational exposures to chemicals in the industrial workplace. The common thread is exposure of workers to massive doses so that latency periods are shortened and the increased incidence of disease recognized.
