Abstract

This paper is devoted to the development of a method for calculating the natural waves of ridged waveguides in the presence of losses in the walls. This class of problems is of interest because of the presence in such waveguides of a number of properties that are important for engineering practice, in particular, regimes of anomalously small damping. A simple, physically understandable theory of the natural waves in such waveguides can be formulated on the basis of equivalent impedance type boundary conditions. The authors make their presentation for the example of the H//m//n waves of an azimuthally periodic waveguide. First of all, such a waveguide is of interest from the viewpoint of applications in microwave engineering and, secondly, a consideration of this problem makes it possible to illustrate completely the unique features and advantages of the proposed calculation method.
