Abstract
The views of Israeli ornithologist, Yossi Leshem, on bird migration patterns in Israel and the damage it caused to the Israeli air force are discussed. According to him, Israel is a bottleneck for bird migration as it is positioned at the junction of three continents: Africa, Asia and Europe. He is of the view that many heavy birds have to travel overland because they need the thermal currents created by the sun heating the land. According to him, many more Israeli aircraft have been down by birds than by enemy air battles in the last three decades.
