Abstract

Fiber-optic sensors used for monitoring physical (pressure, temperature flow) or chemical (pH, pO//2, glucose content) quantities are described. These sensors can be inserted into the body via catheters or endoscopes and used as diagnostic tools. They are potentially very sensitive, reliable, and cost effective.
