Abstract
The author discusses an ambivalence of law and of legal theory pertaining to rationality. He describes how law assumes its subjects' rationality. He comments on the practice of legal theory. He looks at measures by which law and legal theory face the challenge of sustaining ambivalence. He emphasizes the need for intellectual openness to law's neighboring disciplines.
