Abstract
The Great Enrichment, dating from the Industrial Revolution was above all a revolution of useful knowledge. Useful knowledge in Europe grew faster than anywhere else after 1500. This phenomenon, which was the crucial causal factor in the “Great Divergence” consisted of two elements: attitudes and aptitudes.
