Asymmetric solitons in mismatched dual-core optical fibers

Abstract

Solitons in a dual-core fiber have been considered in a number of works. However, fibers with dissimilar cores are also of interest in addition to the two cores. In this work, an attempt is made to study the simplest model of a fiber with mismatched cores. In particular, the effects of the core mismatch on the properties of the solitons are studied, and determined whether or not the bistability will remain robust as the mismatch of the cores increased. The main result of the study is that the core mismatch gives rise to a bifurcation.
