N2 - Focusing on the years 1947-62, deals also with the growth in antisemitic activity. During the regime of Perón (1946-55), nationalistic officials practiced a discriminatory immigration policy against Jews. Under the military regimes of Leonardi and Aramburu (1955-58), restrictions on Jewish immigration continued; antisemitic propaganda by extreme right groups grew stronger. In 1957 the group Tacuara was founded by young people of the upper class, inspired by the antisemitic writings of the Catholic integrationist Father Meinvielle. Tacuara perpetrated violent attacks against Jewish individuals and institutions. In 1962 they kidnapped and tortured the Jewish student Gabriela Narcisa Sirota in reprisal for Eichmann's abduction. The protests of the Jewish community and democratic sectors of society were met with indifference by the authorities. A wave of Jewish emigration ensued. Observes that the State of Israel did not always act in agreement with the Argentinian Jewish community, giving priority to its own interests as a state.
