Abstract
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is the classical multiorgan autoimmune disease characterized by clinical and serologic manifestations. The disease is due to an altered immune response including the development of multiple autoantibodies, some specific for lupus. Among these is the antiribosomal P antibody. Elevated titers of many autoantibodies are demonstrated in SLE and in the subset of neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE). NPSLE is common in lupus and occurs in up to 50% of lupus patients.
