Abstract
An unusual acute malignant neuroleptic syndrome following treatment with haloperidol unresponsive to anticholinergic treatment and indistinguishable from acute catatonia is described. Unlike the usually described course of this syndrome, treatment with amantadine was successful. The differential diagnosis and its therapeutic implications are discussed.
