A stochastic solvent model for electron exchange reactions

Abstract

Outer sphere electron transfer reactions are investigated in the framework of a semiclassical theory with a density matrix representation. The coupling of the electron exchange system to the polar solvent is represented as a stochastic Gaussian process. Expressions for the transition probability in the nonadiabatic case are derived in terms of the correlation function for the fluctuating coupling. Some models for the correlation functions are discussed together with explicit results for the transition probabilities.
