A randomized, parallel-group, open clinical study to assess the efficacy and safety of adapalene 0.1% gel once daily compared to twice daily in patients with mild moderate acne

Aim. To establish the efficacy and safety of adapalene 0.1% gel once daily versus twice daily in patients with mild to moderate acne, and to determinate if twice daily application will improve significantly the efficacy of the drug. Methods. It was a randomized, comparative, parallel-group, open study involving 167 patients. Results. The study demonstrated therapeutic similarity between adapalene gel applied once and twice daily. Side effects were similar and minimal, consisting mainly of mild irritant dermatitis. Conclusion. No statistically difference between the efficacy and safety of adapalene gel once or twice daily has been demonstrated. A treatment regimen of one application per day may significantly enhance compliance in acne patients.
