Abstract
Addition of poly I:C and interferon to cultures of fibroblasts from rheumatoid and non-rheumatoid human synovial fluid cultures stimulated prostaglandin E synthesis. Stimulation of prostaglandin synthesis was accompanied by increased production of hyaluronic acid and glucose uptake by the cultured synovial fibroblasts. Hydrocortisone inhibited overproduction of prostaglandin E and hyaluronic acid induced by poly I:C. Cultures to which poly I:C was added did not show a cytopathic effect upon addition of vesicular stomatitis virus and interferon was found in such media.
