Abstract
Seeking to explain the varying effects of retirement on alcohol consumption, we propose a model that highlights the lingering implications of pre-retirement work climate. Our findings supported the proposed model, indicating that unit-level stress climate and descriptive drinking norms moderate the indirect effect of retirement, via distress, on alcohol consumption.
