Abstract
Focuses on the impact of his wartime experiences on his postwar thought and writings. Kovner, the poet and resistance leader from Vilna, settled in Israel after the war, but preserved his devotion to the Eastern European Jewish culture erased by the Nazis. He demanded that the Israeli establishment give greater respect to the victims of the Holocaust.
