Abstract
The proposed research examines the adjustment process to retirement amongst teachers during the initial stages of retirement. The aim of study was to expose the characteristics of the pedagogical career which express the teacher's adaptation to retirement life.The study was based on a qualitative paradigm of data collection and analysis. The data was gathered through semi coordinated interviews that were conducted with 31 teachers who have been retired for 2-6 years, with over 25 years of teaching experience in elementary schools and high schools.This study found that the profession of teaching will be reflected in the teachers' experiences of adjusting to retirement in the psychological-personality level and that of the operational-practicalaspect. Personality traits, tendencies and skills which were acquired and developed during 30years of teaching usher the teacher into the life of retirement and is an integral part of the adjusting process to retirement. Moreover, the retired teacher's daily activities are influenced by his/her teaching career.
