Abstract
Batteries charged by a system of solar cells must be able to supply the necessary energy to the consumer at all times and, for that reason, their capacity must be determined in accordance with the longest interval between periods of insolation. On the other hand, solar installations are faced with the problems of overcharging due to the uncontrollable source of radiation - the sun. The article defines and examines these problems and offers a number of simple solutions applicable to a land-based installation. A system of charge control is explained in detail for a solar-electrical installation in which batteries constitute an integral part.
