Avraham (Rami) Unterman is a pulmonologist and physician-scientist specializing in interstitial lung diseases (ILD) and pulmonary fibrosis. He leads the Pulmonary Fibrosis Unit at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center and is a faculty member at Tel Aviv University. His research focuses on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms driving pulmonary fibrosis and translating these discoveries into improved biomarkers and therapies for patients with ILD. His laboratory integrates cutting-edge genomic and spatial technologies, including single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics, with deeply characterized patient samples to investigate fibroblast biology, fibroblastic foci, immune–stromal interactions, cellular aging, and telomere biology. In parallel, his clinical research focuses on improving the diagnosis, phenotyping, prognostication, and treatment of patients with ILD through prospective clinical studies, real-world patient cohorts, and clinical trials.
